Holding off on dreams, while waiting for the “right” time.

It’s not news that I moved to the US in Dec 19, I literally talk about it a lot, but today I want to talk about it briefly and how it has shaped or diverted my journey to fulfilment. Just shortly after I graduated college and before I had started my National Youth Service, I got the opportunity to actually get paid for one of the few things I enjoyed doing; I was offered a job as a Creative Director with an eco-startup in Abuja, I was working remotely and was being paid, a month later, I got into camp, and then three weeks later, I get a call from my mum, to take the next available flight to Lagos state, because we had just been offered an interview date for our immigration visa application into the US, of course by God’s divine plan, we got it and in less than a month, we left everything behind and moved across the Atlantic (and of course I had to quit my job).

I remember being contacted by Maryam (my boss then), for this role and I also remember accepting the job; I was filled with a sense of shock and a sudden rush of excitement and then a feeling of fulfillment right away — only because I never saw myself actualizing my dream, even though I believed in it so much (crazy stuff, imposter syndrome!).

We moved to the states, and finding a job in the creative was hard, I couldn’t get in; so I convinced myself that maybe finding a job in my field of study would help, where I could eventually be able to finance my actual dreams; dear reader, it has been two and a half years now, and I still haven’t been offered that opportunity.

One shouldn’t have to wait for something to happen, in order to do something else, now I know better and it hurts that I have had to wait this long for this realization to kick in.

I have to put in work in getting this shit done, whether or not an IT job comes along to finance this dream.

Ps. it is the author’s dream that he gets to work with the biggest names in the arts, creative and entertainment industry, which would include but no limited to, i. working in film as an actor, a director and then a producer ii. producing one of the world’s biggest event of the night, the Oscars iii. going to a culinary arts school and becoming a notable chef and many more.
